Competitiveness of Sub-sectors
The full name of the Component is “Competitiveness of Sub-sectors and Development of Value Chains”. The components objective is stated in the Programme Document as: “Business and cooperative relationships between the stakeholders (production, processing, trade and services) of selected sub-sectors are strengthened.
The component has contributed to the intensification and effective creation of business and cooperation relations between the different actors of the sub-sector (production, processing, trade, services), adding value to local production, and improvement of access of producers to national and international markets, thereby leading to an increased competitiveness of the SME and their market position within the sectors.
The approach also complements parts of the Local Economic Development component by supporting local firms to integrate into value chains and formation of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
Main intervention areas of the value chain component are:
- Output 3.1: Sub-sector dialogue, networking and strategy development
- Output 3.2: Strengthening of the institutional framework
- Output 3.3: Sub-sector specific Business Development Services are improved
- Output 3.4: The cooperation amongst the actors of the value chain is strengthened
- Output 3.5: Investment promotion and development partnerships with the business community are realized
- Output 3.6: Support to the study of industrial cluster
Achievements of the component’s objective were measured by the following indicators :
- 4 development partnerships with the business community have been realized.
- Companies of the sub-sectors invest in at least 3 joint projects (e.g. training, infrastructure).
- The number of SME integrated in subcontracting relations has increased in comparison to the baseline year by 40% (according to interviews with exporting companies and trading houses in the sub-sectors).
